What’s Next - July 2017
Now, that my first book, The Good Race, has been released under the Fox Chase Books label, I get the question a lot of, “So, what’s next?”
Here’s what’s going on.
First up is VACATION! A nice, big, family beach vacation on Ocracoke Island is the first order of business. I may not bring my laptop.
Who am I kidding? OF COURSE I’m bringing my laptop! But that doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll get any writing or editing done. It’s more of a rainy day activity next week should the weather present itself.
Let’s talk about The Guardian series first. The first book in that series, The Guardian, will be published by Raconteur Books. We are now in edits for the last third of the book. Once that’s completed all plot and character issues should be solved and it’s light edits after that. It is my hope that we can get this book out by the end of the year. Don’t quote me on that. It’s up to the publisher’s schedule. I’m not the only book there, so—GASP!—other writers are getting attention, as well. There are four books in that series: The Guardian, The Scholar, The Healer, and The Fox. This is a fantasy series that I remain extremely excited about! The initial draft of The Scholar is also in the editor’s hands, so once The Guardian is out, attention will turn to that book.
Now for the Grayson Falls series. The Good Race released June 2, 2017. It’s slowly gaining traction. How’s it doing? As expected. This book is never going to be my big money maker, but it has infinite value. This is the book that’s starting to get my name out there. This book will be handed out for free to media outlets, bookstores, and other advertising opportunities to start gaining recognition. Once the next book comes out in the series, the price of The Good Race will drop significantly and stay there. That’s just the way the game’s played.
I’ve plotted out and started writing the second book in the Grayson Falls series. Its working title is The Slow Lane. Not all that original, but titles have never been my strong suit. This is Ryan and Sophie’s story. I’m hoping to have this finished and released by the end of the year. No promises, as I also have a day job. It’s the unfortunate downfall of being a writer. One day, maybe I can spend all my days writing!
So that brings us to the end of 2017, and believe it or not, I do have a schedule for 2018. The first book I will be working on is The Healer, then the third Grayson Falls book, then The Fox. Finally, a Young Adult fantasy tentatively called Tangled Minds. That’s FOUR books in one year. It’s a pretty aggressive writing schedule, and it might not be entirely attainable as I’ll also be doing deep edits on The Scholar.
Headed to a writer’s conference in NYC in August and another in October. Networking, networking, networking!
So, that’s what’s next!
